![]() From there we selected a bull from the well-known Legacy Deer Group of the Del Lange family. Our first herd bull was a Reed grandson brought down from Canada from the Cliff Begg herd. We have concentrated our efforts towards having breeding stock with strong genetic backgrounds. Now you know why we call our farm Wildlife Lakes Elk Farm. ![]() If you have never heard Trumpeters communicating you must stop by in the spring to hear the unbelievable sound of the Trumpeter Swan. We presently have two breeding pairs on our ponds and have hatched as many as 5 cygnets per year. Trumpeters can be as large as 35 pounds and have a wing span as wide as 8 feet. The Trumpeter is truly a site to behold as it is the largest bird on the North American continent. We were one of the original cooperative breeders with the DNR, with a goal of putting Trumpeters back into the wild by releasing the offspring as we did with the Canadian Geese. We actually started with breeding Giant Canadian Geese and soon added mule deer to our collection. Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a prion disease that affects deer, elk. We decided the best way to enjoy wildlife on a daily basis would be to raise animals and waterfowl on and around these many man-made ponds and lakes. As you can see from the aerial photo, we have a weakness for building ponds and lakes. We have been raising elk for over thirty years, and have enjoyed working with these majestic animals every day of those ten years. We are committed to transparency to give you peace of mind.Wildlife Lakes Elk Farm is located in Southeast Iowa, about 10 minutes from the mighty Mississippi River, and very close to the city limits of Burlington, Iowa. We combine traditional farming methods while utilizing new ideas - such as hydroponics, striking a balance to give our animals the best care possible. We firmly believe in a head-to-tail philosophy, utilizing every part of the animal we can in order to respect the life it gave. Our meat is harvested under USDA inspection, then brought to our on-farm butcher shop to be aged, cut, and wrapped. We use organic practices and our meat is free of antibiotics and added hormones. Our animals are raised outdoors under blue skies and sunshine on our Utah ranch as well as our West Jordan farm, with plenty of space to exhibit their natural behaviors. Our pork and poultry feast on greens and our custom no corn/no soy feed mix. Our beef and lamb are completely grass fed & finished, or as we like to say, “Grass-Only”. We know the highest quality meat comes from the highest quality animals and what they eat makes all the difference. Now we are committed to bringing the same quality to you as we continue to raise our animals the way nature intended.
